Introduction: The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) attacks the immune system, increasing the risk of infections. Female Sex Workers (FSWs) are considered a key population with a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS. Condom use is an effective prevention method; however, its usage remains low in Padang City, at only 33%. Several factors, such as knowledge, attitudes, and social support, influence condom use behavior among FSWs. This study aims to identify the factors associated with condom use behavior among Female Sex Workers in Padang City in 2024.
Research Methods: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design with a sample of 97 respondents from a total population of 782. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling, with data collected through questionnaires. The data were analyzed using the chi-square test and logistic regression analysis. The research was conducted from March to October 2024.
Results and Discussion: The findings reveal that nearly half of the FSWs (41.24%) exhibited poor condom use behavior. The factors significantly associated with condom use behavior among FSWs in Padang City were knowledge (p=0.000), negative attitudes (p=0.000), low peer support (p=0.006), low healthcare worker support (p=0.005), and poor negotiation skills (p=0.002). The most influential variable was attitude (p=0.000, OR 5.877).
Conclusion: Condom use behavior and attitudes among FSWs in Padang City remain low. It is recommended that PKBI establish a dedicated media platform to promote condom use, provide regular counseling, facilitate easier access to condoms, and strengthen peer education through training or workshops. These efforts aim to improve FSWs' attitudes and awareness regarding condom use.
